Corky Cummings in “My Friend Missy”
relates how he met and made friends with a young lady he considers a delight.

Say “Hi” to Corky in California at ccummings7@cox.net.

Wayne Edwards has five new humorous poems this month each related to the word “short”:
“Advantages of Being Short” tells of all the advantages and one drawback to being short; “Magic Hat” reminds us to be careful what we wish for when given the chance; “One Minor De-Tail”
tells us how the rabbit’s tell got short;
“My Sneeze” relates the mess a little girl makes with her sneeze; and “Grace” reminds us that if we’re Christians, we don’t need to broadcast it.
Here’s one to whet your appetite.
My Sneeze
by Wayne Edwards

My teacher asked me;
“Goodness sakes, Bessie,
Just look at your arm,
Why is it so messy?”
It makes you wonder,
When they have to sneeze,
How teachers wipe off
The mess that it leaves.
It was quite a sneeze,
The worst of the day.
Kids that were close by
Complained of the spray.
Where else could I wipe
The gook a sneeze leaves?
No tissue or hankie,
And my dress had short sleeves!

Wayne will be making a presentation at the Bush Library May 15.
See Wayne’s books in the Bookstore and visit Wayne’s website at familypoet.com and say “Howdy” to him at wayne@familypoet.com.

David Carlton is still working away on the new collection of his poetry; however, we have plenty to share.
Nature
 by David Carlton

    There are things in Nature that I don’t understand
    Like a little blue rock you can hold in your hand

    It’s a dark shade of blue with patches of white
    The color of oceans and clouds in sunlight

    It’s a simple little rock that comes from the ground
    But a beautiful part of Nature that someone has
          found

    Though this little rock is not diamonds or gold
    The simple beauties of nature, they never grow old

Michael O’Brien’s essay this
month is “Daybreak” which was prompted by a challenge to arrive at a proposal that would change the world.

Check  out Michael’s blog at
http://mjobrien.com/blog/ and view more of his art at
mjobrienart.com and Michael O’Brien and see his new art on the “New Art Stuff”page and see his books in the Bookstore and say “Howdy” to Michael at mjobrien@tamu.edu.

  Bob Hurt has a new essay for us, “How to Survive in Egg and Steak Heaven without a Circulator,” in which he takes us---in an amusing fashion---through his cooking process for eggs and steak.
Say “Hi” to Bob at bob@bobhurt.com.

Charles Wallis is back with another essay, “The Self: A Context For Experiences.” in which he contemplates the meaning of life.
Check out Charles’ art contributions this month.

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has three new essays for us this month:
his essay, “My Own History,” is Bill’s effort to recount the quick pace of technological changes and questions their value;
in “December 7,1941” Bill relates the hardships of WWII and the blessing derived from it; “Big Changes Since WWII” is Bill’s effort to point out technological changes since WWII all of which are not good.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

I don’t have any new essays this month: yeah, I’m a little surprised also. Other stuff pulled me away from writing and painting.
However, I went back into my storage vault and pulled up four that I’ve always liked. Enjoy.
 “My Friend Jim” is about a fellow who was a friend of mine from college through his death a few years ago;
 “Our Town”  is about my town, Somerville, Texas;
 “Counting Cats” tells of a recreation that my wife, Linda, and I participate in on a weekly basis; and
“The PO-lice” is about my encounters with lawmen through the years.
Would you believe it---I have a new book, Old Guy: I’m Still Here. My first book was titled Old Guy Has Final Word: It’s All about Me. I put that book together when I was extremely ill and suspected I probably wouldn’t be around long. Well, it turns out that I’m still here and have written over 300 essays.
The selections in this book are just a few that I really like. There is no rhyme or reason for the ones I’ve chosen. They’re a little like the famous box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get. I hope ya’ll enjoy them.
By the way, my good friend, John Grant, provided the cover art. Thanks, John.
The book is available at Amazon.

My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
