Wayne Edwards has five new humorous poems this month:
“Exercise Help” is an admission of a need for help in her exercising; “My Exercise” tells how a lass was a little confused by the doctror’s orders; “Exercise Appetizer” relates how an exercise tape led to a fine appetite;
“Dog and Cat Fight” tells what stopped the cat and dog squabble; and “Golfer’s Logic” is the story of how a husband uses the Lamaze intructor’s advice to his advantage.
Here’s one to whet your appetite.
Golfer’s Logic
by Wayne Edwards

He was at a Lamaze class
With his very pregnant wife,
Which is a required duty
In every man’s married life.
“Exercise is important,”
The pretty instructor said.
“Break her away from her soaps,
Take her for long walks instead.”
“Go walking in the country
Where grass is lush and green
With ponds and pretty scenery
And walking paths in between.”
He said, “Just like the golf course,
Where I go most every day,
She can carry my golf clubs,
On those long walks while I play!”

Manly Smells
by David Carlton

I saw a list of manly smells
And with most I can agree
But here’s a list of some manly smells
That means the most to me

A brand new saddle right off the rack
        I love that leather smell
Before it’s been used and weather
                 stained
And put though a cowboy’s hell

Fresh cut hay on a frosty morn
After its been dried so well
I can close my eyes after all these years
And still smell that wonderful smell

Fresh black coffee in a dirty old pot
As the Bacon is cooked just right
Fat lighter wood and a smoky campfire
As an owl hoots in the night

Fresh plowed dirt in a new hay field
        The ancient scent set free
It’s a musky smell that’s sure not sweet
But it means a lot to me

The swampy smell of tannin stained
                water
        In a central Florida creek
Along with the memories that come
                 flooding back
Makes this old cowboy feel weak

Horses and cows have a smell of their
                 own
I can even smell them in my sleep
A wet cow dog sitting up front
Riding shotgun in a cowboy’s jeep

        Cypress lumber and creosote posts
As they’re used in making cow pens
And an old dipping vat from long ago
That can never be used again

Wet felt hats, and stale cigars
In the cab of an old cow truck
These are the smells that jump to mind
And remind me of my cowboy luck

I’m a lucky man to have these
                 memories
And to remember these manly smells
They’re treasured possessions of a way
                 of life
And my memories serve me well

Michael O’Brien’s essay this
month is “Talisman” which is a reminder to be rightfully proud of our connection to those who have gone before us.

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has five new essays for us this month:
his essay, “Respect for Country,” is Bill’s lament that we seem to be losing our respect for laws and our love of country;
in “Naive Socialist-Democrats” Bill sees proposals by the Left to solve everything from the border invasion to medical care to be naive; “Scary Socialist-Democrats” is Bill’s reaction to the recent Democrat Presidential debate; and in
“Beating a Dead Horse” Bill points out that in spite of ample evidence, the Democrats are reluctant to give up their claims of collusion and obstruction; and in “Rational Conclusions,” Bill suggests a rational reation to the recent Dayton and El Paso shootings.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

I’m back this month with four new essays:
 “Snake!” is my reminiscences about snakes;
 “Berkeley PC Police Save the World” is the story of Berkeley’s PC police achieving great things;
“Do Aliens Have a Sense of Humor?” asks the question that Ancient Aliens has not addressed; and
“Beer for All” is my finger wagging at the recent decision by TAMU to serve beer and wine during Aggie football games.
Would you believe it---I have a new book, Old Guy: I’m Still Here. My first book was titled Old Guy Has Final Word: It’s All about Me. I put that book together when I was extremely ill and suspected I probably wouldn’t be around long. Well, it turns out that I’m still here and have written over 300 essays.
The selections in this book are just a few that I really like. There is no rhyme or reason for the ones I’ve chosen. They’re a little like the famous box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get. I hope ya’ll enjoy them.
By the way, my good friend, John Grant, provided the cover art. Thanks, John.
The book is available at Amazon.

My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
