New Writing Stuff.

We need to talk...again.
I know a lot of you folks read the poems and essays and fiction on this site, but, unfortuantely, not many of you ever send a note of appreciation or admonishment to the authors.
This doesn’t make you a bad person, but look at it from the point of view of the authors who receive no monetary compensation for their contributions to Old Art Guy. The author’s bio link and live email address is right there below the title of the written piece. Who knows? If you send them a note, you may make a new friend.

Corky Cummings, our newest contributor, continues to send us essays that are informative and more importantly---humorous. Corky’s essay is “Avoid Judy and Sally”
muses about the fitness craze and his lack of interest in it----and, oh yeah, Judy and Sally.
 Say “Hi” to Corky at ccummings7@cox.net and see his bio page at Corky Cummings.

Wayne Edwards has five new humorous poems this month: the subject matter varies: “Aroma” puts a twist on the odors we encounter in grocery stores; “A Cup of Water” relates the story of a backwoods boy when he first

encounters city water;
“Gourd  Dipper” tells of an OMG moment when a fellow is offered a drink of water from a gourd;
“Frustration” proves that God has mysterious ways of dealing with golfer sinners; and “Stay” relates how dog training can sometimes cause confusion.
See Wayne’s books in the Bookstore and visit Wayne’s website at familypoet.com and say “Howdy” to him at wayne@familypoet.com.

David Carlton is busy preparing a new book of his poetry for publication, but he did manage to send us a spanking new poem, “Cowboy Rocking Chair.”
Not anticipating the surprise gift, I included an older poem by David that I just didn’t have the heart to remove.

Maters

One more mater samitch
The dear old lady said
Without some maters on my plate
I just don’t feel I’m fed

I like em ripe right off the vine
So plump and scarlet red
A little mayo spread just right
On both slices of my bread

A little salt across the top
The dear old lady said
Without some maters once a day
I just don’t feel I’m fed

and see his website at

Jay Brankefield returns this month with a fine essay, What Should I Wear to a Nuclear Holocaust? All my Friends Will Be There
 in which Jay reminiences about old Bryan, Texas, and death and the feeling of belonging.

Michael O’Brien’s essay this
month is “the shortest day...the longest night” in which he speaks of the importance of giving and receiving gifts and the etiquette that accompanies it.

Check  out Michael’s blog at
http://mjobrien.com/blog/ and view more of his art at
mjobrienart.com and Michael O’Brien and see his new art on the “New Art Stuff”page and see his books in the Bookstore and say “Howdy” to Michael at

Patricia Campbell has another essay for us, Counting Cats in Somerville, Texas, which she wrote after visiting our home in Somerville. I think she finds Somervile to be “quaint.”

Give Patricia a big Texas “Hi” at campbellpatricia@bellsouth.net.

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has three new essays for us this month:
“Brenham, Texas, Has a Professional Theatre” is Bill’s attempt to bring attention to one of Brenham’s real assets;
“Paying for Panic” suggests that many times sceince folks try to gin up panic to secure funding for their desired projects; and “The Train to Crystal City” is a reminder of what can happen when the American people overeacte to threat.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

This month I have four new essays:
“My Front Porch” is a review of my view from my front porch and why it makes me a happy man; “Paul Harvey: American Hero” is my way of honoring an American hero; “Hell, It’s On” is my reaction to the anti-Christian folks; and “Poodle Skirts and Ike” is a look back at my high school days.”
My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
Tell me how much you hate my writing at oldjwpinkerton@gmail.com and take a look at my bio page: John Pinkerton.
