New Writing Stuff.

We have a new author, Corky Cummings. Corky’s initial contribution is “Three Days of Category 6.”
Corky, a native of Somerille, Texas, enrolled at Blinn Jr. College, Texas A&M, and received a Bachelors degree from Sam Houston State University.
Corky entered the savings and loan industry in Houston, married Patti and moved to California. He retired in 2012. They, along with their dog, Boomer, live in San Clemente near their two grown children and their four grandchildren.
Corky was one of the students in the first class I taught in 1967. The years have not diminished his sense of humor. Corky wrote to me the following:
“To me, laughter is one of the biggest keys to a fun and happy life. I enjoy writing humor, especially about my grandchildren and my own personal experiences. Hopefully the readers of John’s website will get a chuckle or two and be able to relate to some of the things I write about in their own lives.”
Welcome Corky aboard at ccummings7@cox.net.

Wayne Edwards has five new humorous  poems this month all about Christmas: “The Casualty of Christmas” takes a deeper look at our attitudes at Christmas; “The Party Before Christmas” is an account of a Christmas party gone bad;
“Mommy Smells So Good” is a tribute to mothers everywhere;
“X-Ray Vision” is a lament of a young lad because he doesn’t have x-ray vision at Christmas; and “Santa’s Knee” relates how much better kids appear to be around Christmas.
See Wayne’s books in the Bookstore and visit Wayne’s website at familypoet.com and say “Howdy” to him at wayne@familypoet.com.

David Carlton doesn’t have a new poem for us this month, but I want to share once again David’s “Cajun Christmas.”

Cajun Christmas

                    Christmas music on da bayou
                    By a zydeco band
                    Brings the Christmas Spirit
                    Throughout Cajun land

                    All dem little chilren
                    Da’s tucked in dair beds
                    With smells of Christmas gumbo
                    Dancing all tru dair heads

                    While out on da bayou
                    Old Santa’s making rounds
                    Delivern da presents
                    Where even reindeer would drown

                    He switched to his pirogue
                    An his alligator team
                    Up around Lafayette
                    To deliver chilrens dreams

                    It really don’t matter
                    Where little children are found
                    Santa has them included
                    In all his Christmas rounds

                    Joyeaux Noel et Bonne Annee!
                    (Noel joyfully and Happy New Year)

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has four new essays for us this month:
“Racism and the National Anthem” is a response the the California chapter of the NAACP’s claim that the national anthem is “one of the most racist, pro-slavery, anti-black songs in the American lexicon”;
“Dear Kneeling Brothers” highlights a Black woman’s response to the kneeling NFL players; “Sex Will Win” is Bill’s take on the current sex scandals; and “Apples and Oranges” is Bill’s effort to make a distinction between the nature of the various sexual allegations which are currently being made.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

This month I have four new essays:
“Suicide Happens” is a look at the dark subject of suicides; “My Pallbearers” is my humorous look at the prospect of needing pallbearers; “Not a Wizard” is a partial list of my core beliefs; and “Bob Barron” is a tribute to a good friend no longer with us.

My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon. I’ve added a Kindle version. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
