New Writing Stuff

Well, this is a first for me: I’m ignoring my policy of only promoting artists and authors who participate on this web site, but I’m making an exception for Samuel E. Pittman II and his book Alligator Jazz.
You can purchase a copy at Barnes & Noble and independent bookstores or online at the Pelican Publishing Company, Inc. (PelicanPub.com),  Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and on the sites of other online booksellers.
Why the enthusiasm? Well, Linda taught Sam when he was a student in Somerville High School, and they worked together on UIL events. Linda has a special place in her heart for Sam. I was just in the vicinity.

The main reason for our enthusiasm for Sam’s book is Sam, a great student and a wonderful young man.

Corky Cummings in “A Dog’s Life” allows “Boomer” to tell his own story.
Say “Hi” to Corky in California at ccummings7@cox.net.

Wayne Edwards has five new humorous  poems this month each related to food: “Don’t Play with Your Food” tells of a boy who thinks of his veggies as his friends; “Food  Play” relates that a young girl wants some food to eat and some for play;
“Cafeteria Food” tells of a lad’s dog who loves cafeteria food;
“Food Pong” presents a child who invents a new food game; and “Alligator Food” tells of a lad’s clever ruse to prompt skinny dipping girls to exit the pond.

Here’s one to whet your appetite.
Don’t Play with Your Food

My mother thinks I’m silly
For playing with my food.
She says to see me do it
Puts her in a terrible mood.
Some kids I know have puppies,
One has talking parrots.
But I’d rather spend my time
With tomatoes, corn and carrots.
My mother thinks I’m silly
But I don’t care at all.
‘Cause my veggie friends and I
Are heading off to play baseball!
See Wayne’s books in the Bookstore and visit Wayne’s website at familypoet.com and say “Howdy” to him at wayne@familypoet.com.

David Carlton is still working away on the new collection of his poetry; however, we have plenty to share.

Among The Weeds
 by David Carlton

        To walk among the shaded weeds
        Where children used to play
        An old house, with rotting boards
        Has seen its better days

        Lives were lived and families made
        As time went marching on
        Things have changed… its history
                 now
        The house is no longer a home

        You have to wonder where they went
        And are they still around
        If you looked and checked the
                 records
        How many could still be found

        Is the house filled with pleasant
                 spirits
        Or would all the memories be sad
        Would the family regret their old
                home place
        And all the times they had

Michael O’Brien’s essay this
month is “A Place for Eternity” in which Michael reflects on the death of a friend and his instructions regarding his remains.

Check  out Michael’s blog at
http://mjobrien.com/blog/ and view more of his art at
mjobrienart.com and Michael O’Brien and see his new art on the “New Art Stuff”page and see his books in the Bookstore and say “Howdy” to Michael at mjobrien@tamu.edu.

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has four new essays for us this month:
in his essay, “Progress?,” Bill discusses the progression during his lifetime from early telephones and Western Union to the present day cell phones;
In “Juvenile Home Bad for Brenham” Bill discusses the proposal  of a juvenile home in the Brenham area; “Rough Ride” is Bill’s warning that the Democrats will be shouting for investigations and impreachment for some time to come;
 “The New Colossus” gives us a history lesson on immigration beginning with Emma Lazarus’ poem “The New Colossus.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

I have four new essays this month:
 “Bob and Silent K” is my effort to explain to Bob why his knee has a silent K;
 “Mark Twain”  is a reminder that old Sam wrote more than books for boys;
 “Tibia Vara” is my take on the harmless affliction of bowed legs; and
“Bourre” is your last chance to learn the rules of this wondrous game.
Well, I wandered off to my creative side and wrote another work of fiction, “My Name Is Ismael.” I don’t think it will provide much competition for Mr. Melville.

My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
Tell me how much you hate my writing at oldjwpinkerton@gmail.com and take a look at my bio page: John Pinkerton.
