Corky Cummings in “Yeah, He Said That”
presents humor he’s found in the sports world.

Say “Hi” to Corky in California at ccummings7@cox.net.

Wayne Edwards has five new humorous poems this month:
“Southern Exposure” expresses Wayne’s disdain for hospital gowns; “Aili” is an imaginative image of geese going South; “Head Hunter” relates the unfortunate consequences of a fist fight;
“Show and Tell” reveals that Southern Baptist might see the world a little differently; and “Quack Up” is a play on words about an unfortunate duck.
Here’s one to whet your appetite.
Quack-Up
by Wayne Edwards

He was flying south for the winter.
Ducks don’t know how to back-up.
Too late he saw the TV tower.
He had an awful quack-up!
See Wayne’s books in the Bookstore and visit Wayne’s website at familypoet.com and say “Howdy” to him at wayne@familypoet.com.

Cow Horse

        An early morning whistle
        Brings the horses in to eat
        While two old dogs and a hungry cat
        Sit begging at his feet

        The air is dank and humid
        And there’s not a cloud around
        The chirp of nighttime crickets
        Is the only morning sound

        The morning fog is damp and heavy
        There’s a coolness in the air
        A cowboy waits in anticipation
        With feelings he’d like to share

        He can hear the horses moving fast
        They’re coming on the run
        Ready to eat their can of oats
        And be working before the sun

        Every morning starts this way
        The routine remains the same
        They come running to a cowboy’s whistle
        Both the sound ones, and the lame

        If they’re lucky as the day wears on
        And they’re not working in the pens
        They might steal a mouth full of grass
        Before their leisure time must end

        It’s a long time in a cow horse’s day
        From his first feeding until his last
        But it’s their nature to do their best
        To do the things a cowboy asks

        It not love that makes them work
        And they don’t work for cans of feed
        It’s much deeper than things like that
        It’s more like personal needs

Michael O’Brien’s essay this
month is “Eight Years Ago This Morning I Went Home Sick” in which Michael reflects on memories of 911 and the need for a healing voice.

Check  out Michael’s blog at

  Bob Hurt has a poem for us, “Pining at the Mount,” which is a lament for an unobtainable lass who is living on a mountain.

Say “Hi” to Bob at bob@bobhurt.com and see his website at http://bobhurt.com/articles.

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has four new essays for us this month:
his essay, “Will It Never End?,” points out that nothing the President does seems to please some;
in “Aliens on Stage” Bill pictures the Democrat Presidential candidates as all pretty much alike and out of touch with America; “That’s a Lot of History” suggests that the courts may finally be coming to their senses; and in
“Socialists-Democrats” Bill points out that the Democrats and the press will never let facts get in their way.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

I’m back this month with four new essays:
 “Deaf, Dumb, Blind Old Kid” tells why I’ve begun to relate to Tommy of the play and movie by the same name;
 “I’m a Capitalist” tells why I  fondly remember having to sell coke bottles to pay the bills;
 “I Want My Spaces Back” is an expression at my rage over the deletion of a space; and
“I Collect People” recounts my lifelong habit of collecting good folks.
Would you believe it---I have a new book, Old Guy: I’m Still Here. My first book was titled Old Guy Has Final Word: It’s All about Me. I put that book together when I was extremely ill and suspected I probably wouldn’t be around long. Well, it turns out that I’m still here and have written over 300 essays.
The selections in this book are just a few that I really like. There is no rhyme or reason for the ones I’ve chosen. They’re a little like the famous box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get. I hope ya’ll enjoy them.
By the way, my good friend, John Grant, provided the cover art. Thanks, John.
The book is available at Amazon.

My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
