New Writing Stuff

Mick Burson shared a...well, a thing with me recently.
He converted his recent thesis toward his masters degree from the University of New Mexico into a twelve page newspaper and had 100 copies printed.
I had a difficult time classifying it as art or writing. I settled on writing and titled it “Mick’s Thesis Newspaper Style.”
The expression, “thinking outside of the box,” was made for Mick.
You can say “Hi, Mick” at mnburson@yahoo.com and you can see his art at http://www.mickburson.com/ and his page on this website.

Corky Cummings in “Lucky in Life”
relates Corky’s long term battle against the odds.
Say “Hi” to Corky in California at ccummings7@cox.net.

Sherrine Moore is back after several months with her essay, “Sad and Obvious Agenda,” in which she compares laws governing the treatment of animals and the laws governing the treatment of unborn children.
Say “Hello” to Sherrine at sherrinemoore@hotmail.com.

Wayne Edwards has five new humorous poems this month:
“The Wart on Grandpa’s Knee” is a young lad’s revelation that he’s the wart on his grandpa’s knee; “Art Exhibit” is a young artist’s expression of pride in his new art show; “Mangy Rat and Smarty Cat” highlights a battle over a piece of cheese;
“Cartoon” is a reminder that what might be funny to one may be an outrage to another; and “My Brother’s Part Animal” relates a brother’s misunderstanding of his mother’s words about his new sibling.
Here’s one to whet your appetite.
Art Exhibit
by Wayne Edwards

I am so excited,
You’re the first one to know.
Today I will open
My humongous art show.
I’ve been working for months,
Drawing pictures with care.
So, if you’re not busy,
Won’t you try to be there?
The pictures are all placed
So to best show my style.
There won’t be room for all
‘Cause I drew quite a pile.
The best one of the show
Is Green Alligator,
But they all look real nice
On Mom’s ‘fridgerator.
See Wayne’s books in the Bookstore and visit Wayne’s website at familypoet.com and say “Howdy” to him at wayne@familypoet.com.

Luck
by David Carlton

                        Keep your toes turned out,
                        And I'm wishing you luck
                        Cause sometimes the gentle ones,
                        Are just liable to buck

                        Keep a tight cinch
                        With a hand on the reins
                        Today's a little chancy,
                        And tomorrow's the same

                        The sun comes up,
                        And the sun goes down
                        If tomorrow we're lucky,
                        We'll go another round

                        I'm wishing you luck friend
                        In all that you do
                        May all your horses be gentle
                        And your sky's always blue

Michael O’Brien’s essay this
month is “Attics and Birdcalls” in which Michael reflects on memories aroused by attics and birdcalls.

Check  out Michael’s blog at
http://mjobrien.com/blog/ and view more of his art at
mjobrienart.com and Michael O’Brien and see his new art on the “New Art Stuff”page and see his books in the Bookstore and say “Howdy” to Michael at mjobrien@tamu.edu.

  Bob Hurt has a new essay for us, “On Sticking One’s Patriotic Neck Out to Clean Up Government,” which is a plea for Americans to study the Constitution and all related documents to become more active and effective citizens.

Say “Hi” to Bob at bob@bobhurt.com.

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has five new essays for us this month:
his essay, “The “Doctor” Needs Guidance,” offers guidance on what is and is not socialism;
in “Dems Plotting against Electoral College” Bill explains the Democrats’ plan to demolish the Electoral College; “Greatest Generation Not to Be Replicated” is Bill’s regretful explanation of why the Greatest Generartion is not likely to be duplicated; in
“Chickens and Illegals” is Bill’s allegory comparing a problem with his neighbor’s chickens and our problem with our Southern border; and Have Faith in Capitalism is Bill’s plea that the left in the Democrat Party surrender their silly arguement that capitalism is “unfair.”
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

I’m back this month with four new essays:
 “Lonely Artists” points to real artists as lonely folks because their piers are so few;
 “Hardware, Software, and Life” preaches the importance of being willing to reprogram our personal software;
 “Man Plans, and God Laughs” higlights the obvious---man’s plans are nice, but don’t be surprised if the world alters them; and
“Apathy---Not Always a Bad Thing” is somewhat of a convoluted look at “apathy.”
Well, I jumped off into fiction this month with “Sundays Smell Different” which relates elderly sisters’ conversation on a Sunday morning over teacakes and coffee.
Would you believe it---I have a new book, Old Guy: I’m Still Here. My first book was titled Old Guy Has Final Word: It’s All about Me. I put that book together when I was extremely ill and suspected I probably wouldn’t be around long. Well, it turns out that I’m still here and have written over 300 essays.
The selections in this book are just a few that I really like. There is no rhyme or reason for the ones I’ve chosen. They’re a little like the famous box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get. I hope ya’ll enjoy them.
By the way, my good friend, John Grant, provided the cover art. Thanks, John.
The book is available at Amazon.

My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
