Corky Cummings is back with one of his humorous essays, “Star Gazing”
in which Corky recalls his encounters with “stars” and his Hollywood dreams.
Say “Hi” to Corky at ccummings7@cox.net.

Wayne Edwards has five new humorous  poems this month: they’re all related to horses of one description or another: “Houseflies, Horseflies and Baseball Flies ” tells of a lad who learns to believe Grandpa’s tales; “Horse Egg” relates the story of a young fellow who believes his egg is about to hatch a horse;
“Stick Horse” tells of a little boy’s wonderful stick horse;
“Cactus Horse” relates how riding a cactus horse might be sticky adventure; and “Quarter Horse” reminds us of the “quarter horses” we once rode for only a quarter.
See Wayne’s books in the Bookstore and visit Wayne’s website at familypoet.com and say “Howdy” to him at wayne@familypoet.com.

David Carlton is busy preparing a new book of his poetry for publication, so I’ve included an older poem by David.

Cook

Painting by Tim Vanya: "Ars Longa, Vita Brevis"

        Old Tom was in the chicken yard
        He was looking for some eggs
        To cook for the sleepy cowpokes
        As they stretched their gimpy legs

        Taters were in the frying pan
        They were washed and chopped real fine
        To brown and feed hungry hands
        As they moseyed in to dine

        A little patch of blooming weeds
        Was growing against the shed
        Where many pans of water flung
        Made a prickly flower bed

        Every day was just like the last
        The menu was always plain
        An old camp cook did what he could
        With a life that was filled with pain

        He never planned to be a cook
        Just a cowboy filled with dreams
        Stiff old joints and aching bones
        From the elements extreme

        Now he cooks and does his best
        Even though it wasn’t planned
        He’s filled with pride and memories
        Of his time riding for the brand

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has four new essays for us this month:
“Deal Not Bonded” is Bill’s contention that nuclear “deal” with Iran is not a legally bonding one;
“Laws Punish---Not Prevent” suggests that folks misunderstand the purpose of laws; “Republicans---Don’t Be Hypocrits” urge Republicans to rexamine what “conservative” should mean; in “Immigration,” Bill proposes that we need to take responsibility for the immigration mess and deal with it in a sane and humain way.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

I have four new essays this month:
“Archie: What a Guy” is my take on an old Greek who gave us a lot including “Eureka”; “The Bevish and Other Ways to Goomberdock” is a nonsense essay mimicking Lewis Carroll’s “Jabberwocky” ; “Difficult Problem: Difficult Solutions” weighs in on the great gun debate; and “The Mystery of Electricity” explores the shocking wonders of electricity.
One of my essays, “Poetry,” gives “free verse” the Dickens claiming it ain’t poetry---just prose in disquise. Well, I abandoned my claims just retaining a regular rhyme scheme for this effort, “I Was Once a Boy in a Tree.”
I’m old and I’ll do as I please, thank you.
My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
Tell me how much you hate my writing at oldjwpinkerton@gmail.com and take a look at my bio page: John Pinkerton.
