I have wanted to write something about our Flag for the past several years. As each year has rolled by, and I have seen our flag and nation attacked, from without and within, I am even more compelled to say something. The American political system is trying to come apart at the seams, and many disillusioned citizens are trying to rewrite the constitution for their own purpose. In a time when our History is being erased and our law enforcement is under daily attack, I foresee many changes coming to our way of life that will be paid for in American blood. Without history, we have no way of seeing where we came from. Without knowing our past, we are apt to repeat mistakes that have been made.
I will leave my comments at that…. for now.
 Old Glory

 Betsy Ross did the stitching
And our soldiers did the rest
They followed our flag in battle
It’s been protected by the best

If you should ask a soldier
Just what our flag really means
He’d tell you that it’s just a symbol
Of our Nation and our dreams

Our freedom was paid for in blood
By the fathers of our land
From the Revolutionary War
To Iwo Jima’s sand

From Korea’s frozen battlefields
To the jungles of VietNam
We’ve defended our Nation’s freedom
In the name of Uncle Sam

The battle still continues
In Iraq and Afghanistan
The face of war has changes my friend
I hope you understand

Our flag may be just a symbol
But even soldiers understand
Without “Old Glory” flying high
This would be a sorry land

Wayne Edwards has another humorous poems this month:
Green Alligator
by Wayne Edwards

I have a little white rabbit
And a dog that dances a jig,
A hamster that lives in a bird cage
And a funny little brown pig.
Oh yes, and before I forget,
I have a green alligator
That sleeps most wherever it likes
But mostly on Mom’s ‘frigerator.
Now alligators have big teeth
And alligators love to bite.
But most of all, alligators
Are known for their big appetite.
Susie was proud of her rabbit
And John liked to brag on his pig.
Henry bought a cage for his hamster
And Paul loved his dog that could jig.
My alligator licked his chops
Because he was one hungry beast.
He thought all the pets were scrumptious.
His belly showed he’d had a feast.
Now I have a pet white rabbit
And a dog that dances a jig,
A hamster that lives in a bird cage
And a funny little brown pig.
At first you may not see my pets
‘Cause they’re all in my alligator,
Asleep in his favorite spot
On top of Mom’s ‘frigerator.

I just have two new essays this month: “The Smells Are Back” and“Uh...Bad News and More Bad News.” Enjoy.
Would you believe it---I have a new book, Old Guy: I’m Still Here. My first book was titled Old Guy Has Final Word: It’s All about Me. I put that book together when I was extremely ill and suspected I probably wouldn’t be around long. Well, it turns out that I’m still here and have written over 300 essays.
The selections in this book are just a few that I really like. There is no rhyme or reason for the ones I’ve chosen. They’re a little like the famous box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get. I hope ya’ll enjoy them.
By the way, my good friend, John Grant, provided the cover art. Thanks, John.
The book is available at Amazon.

My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
