When I checked my email this morning, I anticipated that I’d find Bill Neinast’s latest column which he produces weekly for the Brenham Banner Press. Bill has been sending me copies of his weekly column every Monday for years so that I could republish on my website.
Well, he did send me his weekly column.
In German, we say auf wiedersehen.  In English, it is till we meet again.
In either language, this is my farewell. My  ship is heading for dry dock to await salvage.
The 20 year cruise has been generally smooth sailing.  There were a few choppy areas, but they were mild.
The first In Perspective appeared on these pages [Brenham Banner Press] in October 2001.  Except for four or five weeks, it has appeared in every Tuesday’s edition since.  That means over 1000  In Perspectives have found space on your reading table.
Well, age is now demanding its toll.  My eyes have deteriorated to the point of no correction.  I can read newsprint only with the aid of magnifiers, a slow and frustrating procedure.  Even after substantially enlarging the size of the font on my computer, I have to use a magnifying  glass to review my words.  In other words, it has gotten hard to visit with you.  That means it is time to put this ship in dry dock.
So here’s the perspective.
Many thanks to the Brenham Banner Press for giving me this platform to visit with you.
Many thanks to my lovely and loving wife, Jeannine, for proof reading my every word and keeping me from some embarrassing mistakes.
And, most of all, thanks to you.  Your comments  in agreement and disagreement let me know that In Perspective was filling its roll—it was making you think.
Auf wiedersehen!
I didn’t even know that Bill existed until I met him several years ago at the hospital in Brenham where he was volunteering as a greeter, and I was waiting on my wife, Linda, to come out of surgery on a broken heal. Being a gregarious person, I broached a conversation with Bill. Bill was reared in Somerville, but had moved across Yegua Creek to Washington County. I quickly discovered that I knew members of his family who still lived in Somerville. We seemed to match up pretty well and within a few minutes, he had agreed to send me a copy of his weekly column for my website, oldartguy.com, and 641 columns later, here we are.
I’m going to miss Bill’s weekly column, and I know that his many followers who have read his column in the Brenham Banner Press for years will miss him and his column.
I wish Jeannine and Bill the very best.
Bill Neinast’s last three columns for the Banner Press are, of course, availble in this issue of oldartguy.com.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

Ponk Vonsydow has sent us another novella, Star Trek: The Exploits and Madness of Captain Gareth of Iza, for this issue.
Thanks, Ponk.
Ponk is the author of over twenty novels. Go to the Bookstore for the list and purchase information.
Say “Hi” to Ponk at ponkvonsydow@gmail.com.

I have a dozen new essays in this issue...and my book, Old Guy: Folks I Like, is still new. The title pretty much tells the whole story, and it’s pretty fat---forty-five essays. The folks I like range from John Wayne to Archbishop Sheen to my neighbor Inez. It’s a good read, and you will be a better person for having read it...more or less.
Don’t forget about my old new book, Old Guy: I’m Still Here. My first book was titled Old Guy Has Final Word: It’s All about Me. I put that book together when I was extremely ill and suspected I probably wouldn’t be around long. Well, it turns out that I’m still here and have written over 300 essays.
By the way, my good friend, John Grant, provided the cover art. Thanks, John.
The book is available at Amazon.
My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
Tell me how much you hate my writing at oldjwpinkerton@gmail.com and take a look at my bio page: John Pinkerton

Wayne Edwards has another humorous poem this month:
My Pet Monk ey Likes You, Anna
by Wayne Edwards

My monkey said he’d really like
To come and see you, sometime soon.
He said I should suggest, to you,
Tomorrow… early afternoon.
I don’t know why he likes you so
Because you’ve never even met.
He has lots of weird ideas;
He’s really such a stupid pet.
And now he asks me, every day,
If we’re gonna go to Anna’s.
It all started when I told him
Kids all say that you’re bananas.
