Gene Miller showed up again this month with a dandy little essay, “I’m Calling about Your Timeshare,” in which Gene relates the tale of a timeshare organization that insisted, in spite of his protest to the contrary, that he had a timeshare about which they wanted to meet with him. They promised food: of course he met with them.

Corky Cummings is back with us this month with “Fun Sunday with the Grandkids”

in which Corky relates how he entertained the gradkids and lived through it.

Wayne Edwards has five new humorous  poems this month all about love: “God Is Watching” tells of a lad who finds a loophole in God’s strategy; “God’s Water Bed” reveals that sometimes Moms’ little white lies have unexpected consequences;
“God I’m Good” is a man’s prayer which calls on God for help one more time in spite of his being “good”;
“Where Is God,” is a priest’s effort to put the fear of God in a couple of lads which leads to an interesting reponse from the twosome; and “God Bless You” asks a philosophical question to which I have no answer.
See Wayne’s books in the Bookstore and visit Wayne’s website at familypoet.com and say “Howdy” to him at wayne@familypoet.com.

David Carlton is busy preparing a new book of his poetry for publication, so I’ve included an older poem by David. It’s fairly long but worth your time.
Points to Ponder...
 by David Carlton

I had amnesia once – or twice.
What if you are scared half to death.....twice.
Protons have mass? I didn't even know they
     were Catholic.
We know the speed of light, what is the
     speed of dark?
All I ask is a chance to prove that money
     can’t make me happy.
I’d give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
If the world were a logical place, men would
     ride horses sidesaddle.
What is a “free” gift? Aren't all gifts free?
They told me I was gullible .. and I believed
     them.
Teach a child to be polite and courteous in
the home and, when he grows up, he’ll
never be able to merge his car onto a
     freeway.
Two can live as cheaply as one, for half as
     long.
Experience is the thing you have left when
     everything else is gone.
What if there were no hypothetical
     questions?
One nice thing about egotists: They don’t
     talk about other people.
When the only tool you own is a hammer,
every problem  looks like a nail.
A flashlight is a carrying case for dead
     batteries.
Toes are appendages on the front of the foot
used to locate furniture in the dark.
What was the greatest thing before sliced
    bread?
I used to be indecisive. Now I’m not sure.
The cost of living hasn't affected its
     popularity.
How can there be self-help “groups”?
Is there another word for synonym?
Where do forest rangers go to “get away
     from it all”?
Is it possible to be totally partial?
Is Marx’s tomb a communist plot?
If swimming is so good for your figure, how
     do you explain whales?
Show me a man with both feet firmly on the
ground, and I’ll show you a man who
     can’t get his pants off.
It’s not an optical illusion. It just looks like
     one.
Is it my imagination, or do buffalo wings
     taste like chicken?

Bill Neinast, columnist for the Brenham Banner Press,
has five new essays for us this month:
in“Trump and the Press” Bill wags a finger at both the media and President Trump for his bad press;
in “Security Clearance: the Truth” Bill relies on his years of dealing with security clearances to give us a little clarity about the present controversy regarding them; “The Washington Playground” is Bill’s comparison of what is going on in Washington to a playground gone amuck; and in “Life Is Adaptable,” Bill reminds us that this round of global warming is not unique.
Tell Bill you appreciate him and his writing at
neins1@aol.com.

I have three new essays this month:
“A Charming Couple” is a celebration of a couple who are both talented artists and charning folks; “My Old Brain” is a look into my brain along with everyone else’s brains; “The DQ” is a hard hitting investigative report on Dairy Queen---wrong, but you may learn some things you didn’t know.
Now for the bad news: I’ve ventured off into the world of fiction again with my latest short story, “Dark Matter.” I gave up on having a beginning and ending. I settled for a middle.
My book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old.
Tell me how much you hate my writing at oldjwpinkerton@gmail.com and take a look at my bio page: John Pinkerton.
