Respect for Country
The road ahead looks very bumpy. Respect for the law and love of country seem to be forgotten concepts.
Jaws dropped last week when Nancy Pelosi, the leader of the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and considered to be the most powerful woman in the country, went on national T.V. and advised illegal aliens how to hinder the enforcement of our laws.
She was expressing a feigned concern for those poor, needy people who are being harassed by officers trying to enforce the law. This harassment was the federal government finally moving to arrest and deport illegal aliens who have been ordered deported by a court after a due process trial.
Pelosi’s advice on knowing your rights when confronted with an arrest warrant was followed by a number of city mayors directing their police departments not to assist federal officials enforcing the law.
So it is disheartening, but not surprising, to see respect for this great country of freedom and respect for the law rapidly fading. This deterioration in the love of country is best represented by the city council of St. Louis Park, MN.
According to the Star Tribune of that city, “The St. Louis Park City Council voted to drop the Pledge of Allegiance from their meeting agenda out of fear that the tradition was scaring away new residents in their community.”
According to Tim Brausen, a city councilman, “Unfortunately, some of us feel like patriotism has been so politicized that it’s almost used as a weapon against people.”
St. Louis Park is in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. The Representative from that district is a Muslim.
Could this mean that Muslims are uncomfortable pledging allegiance to our country?
This, tho, might be mixing apples with oranges. The initial discussion was about welcoming and protecting illegal aliens, mostly Hispanics.
Some of the best evidence of these welcoming arms for law violators while scowling at officers enforcing the law occurred last weekend in Aurora, Colorado. Hundreds of protesters marched to the ICE detention facility where illegal and undocumented immigrants are being housed. They removed the U.S. flag, replaced it with a Mexican flag, spray painted graffiti on a Blue Lives Matter flag (an American flag with the white stripe under the stars replaced with a blue stripe), and then hoisted it back up upside down.
Not to be overlooked is New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims that the illegal immigrant detention facilities along the southern border are like the concentration camps of Nazi Germany.
Has that woman ever even seen a history book? The concentration camps were for innocent people who just happened to worship in a way not liked by Hitler or who were, in Hitler’s opinion, traitors.
The residents of our illegal alien detention centers came here willingly with full knowledge and acceptance that they might be detained until their legal status could be determined.
“But look at how they are being treated or mistreated,” yells AOC. Please take a hard look. If they, the immigrants, are to be believed, they may be living better in the camps than they were back in their home countries. Without question, they are getting better medical care than they were getting south of the border or from wherever they came.
Moreover, they are getting free medical care and shelter. Of course it’s not free. We American taxpayers are paying for it.
Whatever discomfort or unpleasantness the detainees may suffer is due solely to Congress failing to fix the broken immigration system and to adequately fund the resources required to control an exploding illegal population.
Finally, there is a string of socialist-democrat mayors around the country instructing their police departments not to cooperate with ICE.
If we are telling the police not to enforce the law, how can we tell our children that they must obey rules? Or do we establish a custom of just not complying with rules and laws we do not like?
So here’s the perspective.
The common thread running through all of this thumbing of noses at patriotism and being a law abiding country is the socialist-democrat party.
Maybe we can put a stop to this insanity at the national elections in 15 months.
I hope so.
