Suddenly Charlie disappeared. Then a moment later Janice and Kirk heard Charlie laughing behind them and when they turned around Charlie was standing about six meters away from them. Charlie ran back to them:
"See what I can do? I learned how to teleport myself. I can teleport myself anywhere on the surface of Thasus I like. I have lots more places to live all over. I teleport myself where it's warm when it gets cold in another. But I still can't teleport myself off of Thasus."
Both Kirk and Janice were amazed at the extent of Charlie's powers. Kirk knew what to say next:
"That's very impressive, Charlie, and practical too. Let me ask you something important. How would you like to test the full extent of your powers by coming with us so you can help us?"
Charlie got excited again:
"You mean like a contest using my powers to help you? What do you mean? What kind of contest?"
Kirk nodded in affirmation then he took a more serious tone:
"The entire galaxy is in serious trouble, Charlie, and you may be the only human being who can fix it. We came here to ask for your help because you are not the only human being with the kind of godlike powers you have. Twenty-two years ago during a mission, the Enterprise attempted to pass through the energy barrier at the edge of the galaxy. The ship was struck by violent energy waves, one of which struck my best friend Lt. Gary Mitchell. When Gary, who was knocked unconscious, came to, we noticed both his eyeballs had turned solid silver but other than that he seemed to be okay. We took him to sickbay so Dr. McCoy could tend to him until he fully recovered.
“In the meantime, there were the recorded tapes from an emergency distress buoy we recovered from another starship that was destroyed by some unknown force also related to the energy barrier. The ship's doctor and science officer made a subspace request to Starfleet command concerning any and all information about extra sensory perception or "ESP." Later we discovered Gary Mitchell had developed telepathic abilities which he demonstrated. Gary had the highest ESP rating of all the ship's crew. But Gary's powers grew exponentially and soon he was testing his new powers on the ship's controls. When Mr. Spock, and Dr. McCoy, and I asked Gary about what was happening to him, we discovered Gary's formerly jovial and humble personality had changed and from his own words Gary had developed a god complex.
“Mr. Spock suggested we kill Gary before his powers become too great for us to control him, but I refused to even consider that option. In the end, we managed to sedate Gary and we kept him under until we reached a planet called Delta Vega where there was an automated lithium cracking station. It was our intention to maroon Gary there. In the process, the ship's psychiatrist Elizabeth Dehner who was studying the changes in Gary's personality, a woman who also had a high ESP rating, developed godlike telepathic powers and her eyeballs also turned silver. Gary and Elizabeth and I got into a confrontation when it became necessary for me to try and kill both of them before they could escape Delta Vega. If they re-boarded the Enterprise, we knew they would take control of it because by then both of them considered human beings to be like insects when compared to them. In the process of that confrontation as Gary totally dominated our fight, Elizabeth felt sorry for me and she confronted Gary with her own powers but she was killed. In a momentary lapse of weakness in Gary's powers because Elizabeth had attacked him, I was able to use my phaser rifle to dislodge a giant boulder which fell on top of Gary Mitchell killing him, or so we thought. We didn't stick around to find out and left his corpse still underneath the boulder on Delta Vega.
"That leads me to the problem we have now, Charlie. In light of recent events, we now believe that Gary Mitchell survived being crushed to death by a boulder, and that he has managed to escape exile from Delta Vega. We have totally lost contact with Starfleet Command and the Earth. Later we discovered the USS Excelsior badly damaged and drifting in space having suffered a catastrophic attack of some kind. We recovered 22 crewmen and among them was the ship's Captain Sulu. Sulu, after recovering from his injuries, was able to tell us the Excelsior was attacked by a Federation strike force commanded by Gary Mitchell. Sulu was able to recognize due to him because of Gary Mitchell having solid silver eyeballs. We also found out that he harbors a grudge against me personally as he questioned Sulu about the whereabouts of the Enterprise I am still in command of at present.
“Only a fortunate oversight that caused our transponder beacon to be disabled prevented Gary Mitchell and his strike force from knowing our exact coordinates. In order to travel by stealth to avoid his strike force, we procured a cloaking device from the Klingon Empire a device that turns the Enterprise invisible in all forms of the light spectrum as well as invisible to sensor probes for the most part. It was at that juncture Mr. Spock and I remembered you, Charlie. That's because you're probably the only other human being who has godlike powers similar to Gary Mitchell. We think you are the only person who can stop him from conquering the known galaxy, so he can rule it as an evil living god.
"So, Charlie, are you up for a fight? Will you agree to help us fight Gary Mitchell and stop him from doing what he intends to do?"
Charlie shrugged his shoulders and shuffled his feet while frowning:
"You want me to fight using my powers? I don't know how to fight! I've never had anybody to fight with my entire life! I wouldn't know what to do in a fight with someone who has the same kind of powers as I have!"
Kirk knew what to say next:
"Maybe you wouldn't have to fight by yourself. What do you think the Thasians would have to say if you asked them to help you fight Gary Mitchell? They have omnipotent powers greater than yours or his."
Charlie frowned again:
