“That's just what I love about my man, Charlie Evans! He knows how to treat a girl and he would never make her carry her own suitcases!"
Mr. Spock was ready with his calculations:
Captain, I have the exact point in time referenced. Charlie, you and Janice get ready to leap into the time portal on my signal. I will count down from three. Jump into the time portal when I say "go."
Now Spock addressed the Guardian of Forever:
"Guardian, please replay the missions of the starship Enterprise."
The Guardian replied in its deep hallowed voice:
"It is done! Behold! The past is yours to see and to travel into."
Spock addressed to two time travelers:
"Charlie and Janice please prepare your selves. This won't take long. On my mark. One...two... three...GO!"
Kirk and Spock watched as Charlie Evans and Janice Rand leapt through the time portal taking along with them the three floating suitcases. Whatever was about to happen next neither Captain Kirk nor Mr. Spock nor anybody else on board the Enterprise or anywhere else, like the people of Earth for example, would be aware of or remember.
EPILOGUE
CAPTAINS LOG: Stardate 9522.8: After Dr. McCoy and I narrowly escaped imprisonment in the frozen Klingon penal colony Rura Penthe, and after the Enterprise and crew prevented the assassination of Klingon High Chancellor Azetbur, we are on our way back home to Earth, where I shall relinquish my command. And where the rest of my senior officers composed of my original crew, Mr. Spock, Chief Engineer Scott, Commander Uhura, Dr. McCoy, and my old and best friend "Commander Gary Mitchell," will all be reluctantly leaving the Enterprise bridge permanently to do as I shall be doing and assuming our next responsibilities as pencil pushers working at Starfleet command in our sorely lacking from excitement desk jobs. But that is what comes in one's old age. I am looking forward to camping, fishing, and horseback riding at Yellowstone with Gary, as I made him promise to go camping with me when our biannual vacations come up. Gary says he hates camping, but he always cheers up once he is drinking a cold beer next to a good campfire. This will be my final log entry as Captain of the Enterprise. May her next captain have as much fun with good friends as I did while serving as captain of the Enterprise!"
