"CAPTAINS LOG: Stardate: 95214.9:  Inexplicably, my old friend and Starfleet Academy classmate Gary Mitchell, who came to possess godlike powers after an incident involving the Enterprise at the energy barrier at the edge of the galaxy, gave Gary those powers.  He is a man who I assumed was dead because I myself believed I had killed him on Delta Vega over 20 years ago.  It appears he is still alive and he evidently still possesses his godlike powers. Captain Sulu's ship the Excelsior was attacked by a rogue Starfleet strike force evidently led by Gary Mitchell.

"We now believe Gary Mitchell managed to escape exile on Delta Vega and he traveled somehow to Earth where he used his powers to assume control over the Federation and the people of Earth. All communications from Starfleet Command and the Earth ceased two days ago. Also, it is important to add that Captain Sulu reported that before the strike force attacked his ship, the Excelsior, Gary Mitchell questioned Sulu as to the whereabouts of the Enterprise, presumably because Gary found out I was still in command of the Enterprise and I think Gary has good reasons to blame me for his 20 year-long exile at Delta Vega.  Logically, it follows he is seeking to get his revenge. Fortunately, our transponder beacon was previously disabled meaning Gary could not chart our position via the galactic positioning system. It is my best guess he went after the Excelsior personally because Captain Sulu, a former crewman on the Enterprise when Gary was a member of her bridge crew, was the captain of the Excelsior in his effort to get from Sulu the information Gary wanted concerning the whereabouts of the Enterprise. In our efforts to continue to evade Gary Mitchell's strike force, I have set course to the Klingon home world Cronos to call in a much needed favor from High Chancellor Azetbur, as it is our intention to acquire and install a Klingon cloaking device so we may travel with much needed stealth.

"If we are successful at Cronos, our next stop is the planet Thasus, where we hope to find an adult human male named Charlie Evans. Charlie was the sole survivor of a doomed expedition to Thasus, and he became the charge of the omnipotent Thasians who bequeathed Charlie with godlike powers of his own. Twenty odd years ago when we brought Charlie aboard the Enterprise, we had no prior knowledge of Charlie's powers. Due to Charlie's immaturity and lack of social skills, things went badly for a time as Charlie abused his powers to torment my crew, until the Thasians stepped in to correct what Charlie had done and to take him back to Thasus. I know Charlie may blame me for his continued exile of Thasus. I did not make appeals to the Thasians to allow Charlie to stay aboard or to reach his destination, the planet Rigel.  Charlie may not be willing to help us fight Gary Mitchell, and in fact Charlie may only pretend he will help us to escape exile on Thasus, where once aboard we may discover we then have two dangerous humans with godlike powers to contend with.

"I have thought this over with great turpitude and I have decided that it shall be a risk I am forced to take. Without Charlie Evans help we have no chance of defeating Gary Mitchell, a man who considers himself to be a god, who we think has already assumed control of the Earth, and we believe it is Gary's intention to conquer the galaxy via his godlike powers now that he has starships at his beck and call. We are scheduled to achieve orbit around Cronos in two hours."                   

CHAPTER 4

As the Enterprise approached the Klingon home world Cronos they were immediately met by three Klingon battle cruisers. Shortly thereafter the Enterprise was hailed. Uhura took the call and notified the captain:

"Captain Kirk, a Klingon warship is hailing us. Shall I open the channel?"

Kirk replied:

"Open hailing frequencies."

On the view screen appeared a menacing looking Klingon while the universal translator translated his barking Klingon language.

"This is Commander Kroll of the Klingon battle cruiser Gorg! We did not expect Federation emissaries to come back to Cronos so soon. State your business!"

Kirk assumed a commanding posture and replied matter of fact:

"I am Admiral Kirk commanding the USS Enterprise. You may have heard of me and this starship. I have come to seek an audience with High Chancellor Azetbur."

Kroll replied in gruff tones:

"What business do you have with the High Chancellor?"

Kirk replied:

"I have come to cash in a Klingon honorable debt of gratitude owed to me by High Chancellor Azetbur."

Kroll smirked and replied:

"I will contact the high council about this matter of yours. Stand by!"

There were several moments of silence as the view screen went back to a view of Cronos but shortly Kroll appeared to resume the conversation:
