Tax and Spend

TS—Tax and Spend—is an appropriate acronym for the socialist/democrat party.  There is no better proof of the accuracy of that acronym than the Biden/Harris presidency.

Just look at the first 90 days of the TS takeover of Washington, D.C.  Within the first few weeks, the national debt was increased by two trillion dollars.

This spending of money that was not in the treasury was in the so-called COVID Relief Bill.  There were provisions to send dollars to adult Americans (including prisoners) whether they needed them or not.  Although there was no money to afford these freebies, there was a real need for this hand out for many families.

That understandable commitment, however, was just a small part of the appropriations named after the pandemic.  Dollars were also earmarked for extended unemployment insurance, expanded tax credits for families, funding for state and local governments and public schools, relief for restaurants, and COVID-19 testing and vaccine distribution.

Discussing each of those additional commitments would preclude even mentioning what else is in the TS grab bag and how it will be paid for.  So let’s move on.

Under consideration is another two trillion dollar dip into our bank account.  A bill has not been filed, but Biden’s plan is generally referred to as  the Infrastructure Bill.

Is that an accurate description of the proposal?  Maybe not. Even Majority Leader Chuck Schumer noted that the Biden plan includes much more than infrastructure.

Similar to the COVID relief bill, less than 6% of the plan is related to infrastructure.  A 25-page summary of the TS proposal for the "American Jobs Plan" indicates less than $750 billion of the spending fits even a broad definition of infrastructure.

Just like the COVID Relief legislation, the infrastructure proposal includes a lot of odd provisions.  For example, $174 billion being spent on electric vehicles, $400 billion on home-based care for the elderly and disabled, $25 billion on child care facilities, and $50 billion on "research infrastructure" at the National Science Foundation.

So how will TS pay for all this largess?  With taxes, of course.

Do not worry, however.  Those taxes are going to come from the filthy rich and the evil corporations that are not paying their “fair share.”

That statement indicates that there is no business experience or understanding in the TS hierarchy.

Corporationns employ millions of workers throughout the country.  They produce products and services that are sold for a profit.  Their bottom line is the difference between costs and income.  Taxes are costs, so if taxes go up, profits go down.

To keep that profit margin up, corporations have two choices: cut costs or raise the  price of the product.  So the employees are paying those taxes, either by losing their jobs or paying higher prices for the goods they buy.

Also, as this is called Infrastructure expenditures, the road tax could or should be increased.  That tax is generally considered to be the gasoline or fuel tax.  As Biden/Harris are planning on phasing out carbon fueled vehicles in the near future, raising the gas tax is not practical.

The alternate tax will be a mileage tax.  Vehicle owners will be taxed on the number of miles they drive every year.

It is not clear how that mileage will be determined.  If, however, a mileage tax is created, every vehicle owner in the country will see another tax bill.

Finally, the only personal tax rate increase will be on those with annual incomes of more than $400,000.00.  Maybe you can breathe a sigh of relief over that, but you might be surprised how many of your neighbors will be affected.

So here’s the perspective.

The next time you step into a voting booth and see columns designated as DEMOCRAT or REPUBLICAN, mentally change that DEMOCRAT column to TS.

Then, as you start marking the ballot, think about what kind of country you want to leave to your grandchildren.  Do you want to leave them an opportunity to strive to become “filthy rich” or one where their only choice is to work for something owned and controlled by a TS government.
