The Mystery of the Liberal Mind

By nature, I'm a conservative, and I realize that liberals have difficulty understanding me also.
I've wasted a lot of hours trying to figure out why liberals see the world the way they do.
Now I realize that not all “liberals” are liberals. Some are just go-along-to-get-alongs. They’re another mystery not to be studied here.
I've participated in a number of Facebook conversations with many folks offering their opinions on the 2016 election and the candidates. As the day of the election got closer, the emotional content of the messages became more intense.
The emotion was seldom founded in policy differences. It was founded on their identification with the candidates.
The folks supporting Hillary seemed to be the more emotional. I got the impression that some of these folks expected to have emotional breakdowns if Hillary didn't win. I don't really think their attachment to Hillary was entirely based on their desire to elect the first woman President. It seemed to be deeper than that. I got the impression that they looked at Hillary as a friend, a sister, a mother, or, perhaps, a soulmate…or perhaps, a fellow sister done wrong by her man.
I knew that there was something wrong with some liberals when I overheard one describing Obama as a rock star. A rock star…I've never thought about my Presidents as rock stars. In fact, that's the last thing I want them to be.
I'm writing this on the day of the election: I have no idea what the outcome of the election will be although I suspect Hillary will win. I suspect she will win even though she has a long history of being a liar, of being morally debased. These facts seem to have no effect on the Hillary folks' loyalty to her.
I've never experienced this kind of loyalty to a candidate. The candidates are not my friends or relatives or an extension of myself. They are people we hire to act in our best interest. Of course, we are usually disappointed in them.
Ronald Reagan was Mr. Republican. Although I found him likeable, pleasant, friendly, and humorous…wonderful human characteristics…I never felt an emotional attachment to him. I respected him, but that was the extent of my loyalty.
I'm not concluding that having an emotional attachment to a candidate is an evil thing. I'm suggesting that it's a Hell of a way to select a candidate.
I can't refight the current election. The results will be what it will be. But I think I have a greater insight into the liberal mentality. They are more emotional than conservatives. The leaders of the Democrat party understand this and base their campaigns on emotional appeals. Lord, how many times did I hear Hillary basically say, “Do it for the children.” I recognized years ago this was a go-to card for rascals, but it has an emotional appeal.
I voted for Trump not because I am fond of him; I voted for him because he represented policies I support. If he doesn’t follow up on his campaign words, I’ll vote for someone else in the next election.
Human nature will never change. Liberals and conservatives are different people. They will never agree on their candidates.
