What’s Next!
What’s next? Now they want us to quit eating meat.
They are the fear mongers preaching that humans are burning the earth to uninhabitable conditions.
Now those flames are being fed by the methane gas coming from cows. Early on, they said the cattle were producing the gas by farting. Now they have become more delicate and say it is due to the cows belching.
As humans, dogs, cats and probably all living creatures also produce gas in manners similar to those of cattle, what will be chosen as the next culprit?
In an act of self-protection, the experts on climate will probably try to save humans by claiming that our clothes act as filters like the mask we are wearing protect everyone from the virus.
If filters save the problem, would diapers for cows make it possible for us to keep eating meat? Just think of the thousands of jobs that diapering would create. How many cowboys would be required to keep changing diapers around the clock on all those bovines?
There may be a lot of teeth gnashing now. How can someone be so facetious about expert scientists who are only trying to protect us?
The answer is simple. There is just a recognition that today’s “experts” who want to keep the research dollars flowing are descendants of the experts of old.
Some of the first were the “flat landers” who preceded Columbus. They had much of the world convinced that the earth was flat. “Just look at the horizon” they said, “You can see that the horizon is the edge of a flat plain with a 90% drop off.”
More recently, in the 1950s and 60s, the experts were scaring us with warnings of the coming nuclear holocaust. We were urged to dig and stock bomb shelters and school children were drilled in cowering under their desks.
Even more recently, just 19 years ago in 2002, local government “experts” were scaring residents of Washington County and four surrounding counties. They insisted that they would be without ground water in a few years if they did not establish local bureaucracies to control the water.
One of those local experts proclaimed that residents who did not have access to Brenham’s water coming out of Lake Somerville would have to go into Brenham to take showers.
There were dire predictions that the “water barons” were about to descend on Washington County, buy up all the water rights and drain the water off to Houston and other cities.
Fortunately, the owners of that water organized the Washington County Property Owner Association to fight back with facts.
Expert hydroulogists were hired to prove that, except for a tiny sliver on the extreme northern border of the county, Washington County is over the upper edge of the Gulf Coast Aquifer.
That part of the aquifer contains barely enough water to sustain the county as long as Brenham does not tap into it.
When these facts were broadcast in opposition to the scare tactics of the government supported “experts,” the proposal to establish another local bureaucracy was rejected by more than 80% of the voters.
Here we are now. Twenty yeas without a tax payer supported bureaucracy and not a single pipe line snaking into the county to drain off its ground water. What ever happened to those evil Water Barons?
So here’s the perspective.
The move to get rid of farting cattle by taking meat off the dinner menu came on the heels of some interesting statistics.
A recent study concluded that the average temperature in the first two decades of this century was two degrees higher than the temperature in the first two decades of the last century.
I lived through all but eight years of the century separating those two decades. We were never aware that the climate was drastically or permanently changing. We just adjusted and adapted to the changing weather. A particular hot and long summer might be followed by several that were cooler than normal. The same was true of winters.
So what if the weather behaves normally and the average temperature increases by two or more degrees during the next 100 years?
My bet is that we will adjust and adapt as usual.
