You Lost---Go Home

Santa’s gift was enough healing of my broken left wrist to permit typing again.  So it’s time for some deliberation, discussion, or argument, whatever you like to call it.

Non sports fans outside the Austin area probably missed this news item from several weeks ago:

“AUSTIN, Texas - The local NAACP has filed a complaint with the UIL following Friday's state semifinal game between the Lindale Eagles and the Austin LBJ Jaguars. The Eagles won the game 31-28, but the NAACP said it was only because of unfair officiating.”

The game was a state semi-final contest on December 11.  LBJ was leading at halftime, but things turned around in the second half and Lindale won by three points.

According to the NAACP, the Lindale victory was stolen.  LBJ did not lose; the final score was manipulated by rogue officials.

For some reason, that seems to be a familiar refrain.  For the last four years we have heard nothing but “It was stolen!”  This has been the  never ending refrain of the Socialist/Democrats (SDs) about the 2016 Presidential election.

According to Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and hordes of other belligerent SDs, Hillary Clinton did not lose the 2016 Presidential election.  It was stolen from her by Russian meddling and manipulation.

This resulted in millions of hours and billions of dollars of hearings, investigations, and  a trial (impeachment) of the constitutional winner of the election.

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in that election.  Donald Trump, however, won the Electoral College vote; the vote that counts under the Constitution.

After each losses in the battles to unseat our President, the SD grousing got louder and louder until the final results of the 2020 elections were finalized.

Now the shoe is on the other foot.

Last year, Joe Biden received seven million more popular votes than Donald Trump and carried the Electoral College vote with a vote of 306 to Trump’s 232.  That is a resounding victory.

So what do the Republicans do?  They tell the SDs to “Shut Up!.. It’s our turn to complain now.”

There is no such thing as losing.  There are only stolen victories.  Instead of embroiling Congress in frivolous committee hearings, Trump and his colleagues have embroiled courts in over 50 frivolous law suits alleging fraudulent voting.  All but one, including one in the Supreme Court, were summarily dismissed for lack of evidence.

The judges dismissing the lawsuits include both Democrats and Republicans, including some who were appointed to the bench by Trump.

Notwithstanding being slapped down repeatedly by his own judges, Trump continues to cry like a baby, “Fraud, fraud—I’ve been cheated.  I am still President and will not recognize this illegal interloper, Joe Biden.”

Now the SDs are shaking their fingers at the Republicans and saying, “Shame on You!  How dare you question the results of an election!  You are acting like a three year old kid who lost a game.”

The most ironic part of this ongoing fracas is that every adult is criticizing other adults for doing or saying  the same things they just did or said.

This is not new among politicians.  They have been doing it since the day the nation began operating on a two or more party system.

So here’s the perspective.

The protesting or contesting the results of national elections has gone too far.  Now, it seems, there will be no end to contests of any kind.

As noted by the LBJ/Lindale football game, the days of the loser just taking his ball and going home are over.  Instead the loser will just stand on the field and yell for some adult to come over and physically change the score.

What a shame.
