Becoming Om Intelept

Mick Stratton

mstratton@hlkn.tamu.edu

Give your child a precious gift: teach him to be self-reliant.

The next day Louve got up, did her exercises and ran, ending up in the Haunted Forest. Whenever she looked into the sky she would see Corbcer flying overhead but he never came down to greet her.

She said to herself, “So even when you think I hate you, you continue to try to protect me do you?”

Later that night she kept looking at the tavern door hoping it would be Ravenwolf who came in and finally he did.

When Koracki came in, both Henri and Rand gave him a smile and said, “Where were you last night? We missed you.”

Koracki just smiled at them, looked a Louve and said, “Could I have a beer or would you rather I leave?”

Both Rand and Henri looked at each other with a look that said, “What the Hell is going on?”

Louve said, “I would rather you stay, go sit and I will bring you one.” She got the beer, gave it to him, sat down and just looked at him.

Ravenwolf said “I am so sorry. You were right about the plan, and that I came to try to convince you to come back with me to my world. Your mother was as you, and I came to try to convince her to come first. But you must know this; I love you and would never do anything to trick you or hurt you!”

Louve gave him a small smile and said, “I know, The Way showed it all to me. It also let me know what you have sacrificed and the pain you have gone through because of the love you have in your heart for your people and The Creator. And I think I know how much you love me. I would be proud to do what I need to do for the cause of Good over Evil. Tomorrow I will meet you in the Haunted Forest so we can begin.”

Ravenwolf did not know what to say, so he said nothing.

Then Louve said, “So tell me more about the Om Intelepti and the Cosmic Stream and most importantly the Om Deluminii.”

And they talked…

The next day as Louve prepared to do her exercises and go on her run to the Haunted Forest, she felt the power of Love in her being like she had never felt it before.

When she got to the Haunted Forest, Ravenwolf, Corbcer and Diavol were already there waiting for her. Ravenwolf said, “Today we are going to go through the impenetrable barrier and I will show you where we will train.”

As soon as they got through the barrier and onto the other side of the valley she fell in love with its beauty. Meadows of green grasses interspersed with areas carpeted in wild flowers, rolling hills with several streams flowing through and forested areas here and there.

And the wildlife, oh the wildlife, was everywhere: rabbits, squirrels, deer, beaver, elk, wild boar and more. She saw in the distance a pack of wolves moving toward the elk to see who was weak and therefore dinner, and who was strong and to be left alone. She saw a bobcat bound up a tree after a squirrel, an eagle soaring overhead and a hawk diving down into the grass to rise again with a field mouse in its talons.

She saw various song birds, jays, swallows and her favorites of all, the ravens. She sighed and said, “Ravenwolf, it is so beautiful.”

He responded, “Without man, there is little hate here; therefore this place is full of the Creator and Its Love. Let me take you to the cabin for this will be our training area.”

The cabin was wonderful! Not large but so solidly built. It had two bedrooms, a kitchen attached to the living room and a bathroom with a shower. It had a small fenced in yard, and a shed that was full of weapons: rifles, pistols knives, spears, tomahawks and bows and arrows. All were well kept and in excellent condition.

She looked at Ravenwolf and said, “Now what?”

He answered, “Now the training begins!”

Ravenwolf had spent much time on creating a training regime and progression system. The problem was Louve was much more advanced in some areas than he could have ever imagined. But this wasn't that much of a problem because it was mostly a progression, so instead of starting at the beginning he just found out where she was on the continuum and went from there. Of course there were gaps but they were easy to discover and be worked on.

One of the gaps was a device Louve was completely unfamiliar with called a mini-shield; it was a slightly curved shield approximately six inches by twelve inches. Approximately, because it varied in size, depending on the warrior. Miclupea was quite small only being 5 ft. 2 inches tall; whereas, Doethblaidd was 6 ft. 4 inches tall. Obviously for the mini-shields to fit correctly they varied somewhat in size.  The shield was worn on the outside of the forearms and was attached with three broad leather bands at the wrist, mid forearm and close to the elbow.

The shield itself was made of a compound invented by a Corb Lupian scientist. The compound was extremely light but virtually impenetrable. Arrows, knives and even pistol bullets could not penetrate it. Knowing Louve's size, Ravenwolf had had a pair made to fit her.

The Corb Lupians began training with it at a young age by having one student throwing rubber knives at another who attempted to use the shields to deflect the projectile. By the time one became a warrior he was very adept at using it; the best could even regularly deflect arrows with it.

The first, and only, time it was used in a real battle was in the battle that Unulr_u actually partook in and it was used with great success. After the battle the Bivolians tried to replicate it, but they did not know the compound so their shields were poor imitations, being significantly heavier and penetrable by pistol bullets.

Louve was totally unfamiliar with it and was least skilled with this system than any other. However, by the end of the first month she was as skilled as the average warrior in using the mini-shields.

That month their regime consisted of her getting up early, running to the Haunted Forest, going through the impenetrable barrier (he had taught her how easy it was to get through if she knew the trick) and then run to the cabin where Ravenwolf would have breakfast ready.

Every morning Corbcer would be on a limb in one of her trees and then fly while she ran. When she got to the Haunted Forest, Diavol would be waiting to escort her the rest of the way. Then they would train and study for about four hours a day. After that they would go for walks in the valley, talking, laughing and just enjoying each other and all that was there.

Louve's favorite training exercise was performing the Corb Lupian Dans Cu_it (Knife Dance). The purpose of this exercise was to get the warriors to be able to quickly throw knives from various distances and positions, including while they leaped in the air. She and Ravenwolf would often perform the dance together which caused a pleasant feeling, as if they were connected somehow. Ravenwolf also felt the connection and this made him believe even more strongly that maybe they would be able to merge.

Louve would then run home, shower and go to work in the tavern. Usually Ravenwolf would drop by for several beers.

He was amazed at how fast she was learning; faster than any Corb Lupian ever had and he knew that The Way was with and in her. And he was right about the weapons; she was better than anyone he had ever seen except himself and she was gaining on him rapidly.

Several interesting things were starting to happen. She could communicate with Corbcer and Diavol so well that she was beginning to see images from their eyes. Very fuzzy and not of much value, but still, that was unheard of.

More astounding was that Ravenwolf and Louve were starting to talk to each other mentally through telepathy. While the Om Intelepti could telegraph their thoughts to some animals, it had never been done between humans.

One morning after about a month of training Ravenwolf was in the yard when Louve and Diavol were coming toward the cabin. Seeing her he thought, “Well, Beautiful Lady of the Wood, do you want one egg or two for breakfast?”

She looked at him with a bewildered look, smiled and in his mind he heard her say, “Two, Oh Great Cook of the Wood!”

When she came into the cabin she said, “Why didn't you tell me you, Om Intelepti, could do that? That is really cool.”

He looked at her and said, “We can't,” and then, “Louve, something is going on here and I need to go back to Corb Lupia to discuss it with the Consilui Intelepti. We will need to put your training on hold for a few days if that is alright? Do you think you will be safe?”

She laughed and said, “With what I have learned over the last month I think I will be plenty safe, Old Worrywart of the Cosmic Stream.”

Ravenwolf smiled and said “You are right. If you were in Corb Lupia and took the Warrior test you would easily pass it. Your skills and knowledge are on par with our very best.”

And as you know one Corb Lupian warrior is a complete fighting unit within himself.

So that afternoon after Louve had gone home, Ravenwolf and the companions surfed the Cosmic Stream back to Corb Lupia. He immediately asked for a meeting of the Consilui Intelepti to apprise them of the progress he had made with Louve and their plan.

“Louve is absolutely remarkable; I have never seen anything like it. She is already as skilled a warrior as our very best, and, with weapons, she is challenging even my skill level.

“More than that, she can use telepathy on Corbcer and Diavol, and no one else can do that but me.”

Because Corbcer and Diavol were merged with Ravenwolf, their minds were close to the human level in many ways, so telepathy with them was thought to be impossible except through a merging.

“However what is most beyond belief is yesterday she and I spoke to each other through telepathy.”

There were audible gasps in the room and Miclupea said, “Ravenwolf, that cannot be; we have always believed it is impossible for humans to read each others’ minds and for good reason.”

Ravenwolf responded “I know, but it happened! The Way is in her as it is in me which I believed could only happen if you were an Om Deluminii.

“I believe this is a sign that The Way is in agreement with our plan and it can indeed be accomplished. I also believe that is why she has progressed so rapidly; hence I am here asking for advice on what I wish to do. I want to have her become an Initiate and start training to be an Om Intelept immediately. I would do it in the valley.”

There was total silence for about a minute, and then Corbulom said, “But Ravenwolf that would be extremely dangerous. It takes years and years of training to get to that level and she has only been at it a little over a month.”

Doethblaidd spoke up, “With The Way, all is possible. If she indeed has the ability within her, she may in fact be ready. Besides, as all of us, but Ravenwolf, know the Mysterious Woman and the Bivolians are on the move again, stronger than ever! If our plan is to work it will have to be sped up.”

Ravenwolf interjected, “What is going on with the Mysterious Woman?”

Miclupea said, “She and her army have been moving south conquering every country in her path. We believe she will be at this for several years before she turns the army in our direction. We have sent down Corbalb to snoop around since he is one of our finest warriors and very crafty. He has not returned yet.”

Miclupea said, “Ravenwolf, this is nothing to worry about now, but it is one of the reasons that the faster we can know our plan will work, the better. Is there anything else we should be aware of concerning Louve?”

Ravenwolf responded, “Because of what is happening I think that our normal prescriptions on how to do things will need to be thrown out the window and I should go with my feelings because I think The Way is going to do things none of us could imagine. I would like for the Consilui to meditate on it and we can discuss it tomorrow.”

The next day the Consilui Intelept agreed to Ravenwolf's plan.

Ravenwolf tried to contact Louve from Corb Lupia through telepathy but could not do it. On returning to the valley he tried to do it again but failed. So he sent Corbcer to see if he could find her and he did. She was practicing with her weapons in her backyard. Ravenwolf wondered if they no longer had this ability, or if there was a limited range.

1 One of the principles of the Corb Lupians was that they would not attack any country except in self-defense. This is also a principle of many Libertarians and Anarchists of today.

In this case it caused a quandary in that the Corb Lupians knew that eventually the Bivolians would be coming after them, but not until the army has grown to a great degree in size and strength. If the Corb Lupians struck first when it would be easy to overwhelm the Bivolians then this could be stopped. By waiting, it might be too late. Even if they were to win, their country will have suffered mightily.

Should they change this principle, should they break this principle, or should they wait?

That night as Ravenwolf walked to the tavern, he thought to her. “Hello Beautiful Lady of the Tavern, could you put a beer on my table?”

He was elated when in his mind came the response, “Of course, He Who Abandons His Pupil.”

Henri and Rand both were looking at Louve as she went over to the empty table, put down a beer, turned around and went back to the bar. Rand said, “Louve, what are you doing? Koracki is not here and you are wasting a good beer.”

She looked at both of them and said, “Have neither of you two ever heard of a woman's intuition?”

Just then the door opened, and Koracki walked in and over to his seat where the beer was, smiled and said, “Starting to read my mind, are you?”

Rand and Henri looked at them, then each other and shook their heads.

The next day Ravenwolf asked Louve if she would be willing to become an Initiate to start training to become an Om Intelept. She said yes; she was hoping he would suggest that and could not wait to step into the Cosmic Stream.

She was disappointed that he didn't let her do that immediately. They trained for several weeks doing meditating exercises, working on her telepathy skills with the wild animals, extending the Tai Chi type exercises and working very hard at the Corb Lupian Knife Dance.

On the first morning of the third week he said to her “It is time, let us go to a quiet place I know of which is adjoined to the Cosmic Stream.”

Louve was elated. When they got there, Ravenwolf attached a tether to her so she would not get lost.

Invariably on the first several attempts, the Initiate would lose his balance and be pulled toward the center of the Cosmic Stream whereupon he would be lost forever if he were not connected to his mentor who would just haul him back to the land. Many of the Initiates would never get the hang of it and realized that being an Om Intelept was not their calling.

Ravenwolf showed her how to recognize the Cosmic Stream by the slight light purplish shimmering on the ground out in front of her. People and animals could pass right through it with no ill effects. To actually get into it, they would need to step on a spot that seemed to have a steadier glow. Most creatures would never even notice it, it being so subtle. Stepping on this spot would not be enough. You had to step on it and whisper, “Curs de Apa Cosmic,” which in an ancient language means Cosmic Stream. Because of this it would be virtually impossible for something to accidently get caught up in the dimensional Cosmic Stream, which would surely mean death.

Louve gave Ravenwolf a nervous smile, stepped onto the spot, said the words and disappeared. Ravenwolf waited for the chord to go taut but it didn't. He had a moment of panic and telegraphed to her, “Are you all right?”

Nothing for a second and then she telegraphed back, “It is so beautiful!”

Ravenwolf was stunned; no one had ever stepped out the first time and had not had to be pulled back! Unusually it took thirty attempts or more for the first success.

As for Louve… She felt like she was in heaven; the colors, the grandness and the pure feeling of being surrounded by Love. She felt The Way like she never had before because now, besides It being in her, she was in It. And the colors! Reds, blues, white, greens, purples, oranges. She was looking at the Universe from within it, with no filters of atmosphere and it was all around her.

Then after a minute or so she heard that beautiful Voice say, “Welcome home Louve, this has been your destiny from the beginning. Now step back out to Earth.”

Ravenwolf had no fear for her because he could feel her peace. And then she reappeared with tears of joy in her eyes and the most incredulous smile. She ran into his arms and said, “Oh thank you for training me for this; it is unbelievable.”

Ravenwolf looked down at her and said, “You want to try it again?”

She beamed up at him and, “You better believe it!”

So, four more times she stepped into the Cosmic Stream, saying Curs de Apa Cosmic each time and then she absorbed what was there. He had told her the first three times to look around and to try to notice specific objects like stars, clusters and such, and each time she stayed a little longer.

On the fifth time he said, “Just let your mind go blank and see what comes to it and forget about time. When you are ready, step out.”

After she stepped out she looked happy and at peace. On the way back to the cabin he asked her iff anything happened. Louve said that The Way talked and said many things about the Universe, the different dimensions, the history of Corb Lupia and one other thing that she was directed to tell Ravenwolf.

“And what was that?” He asked.

“It told me that you were to take me to a different place were the Cosmic Stream adjoined the valley and see if I could find it and then find the light purplish stepping spot. If I can, I am to step into the Cosmic Stream without the tether.”

Ravenwolf didn't say anything so after a couple of minutes Louve ask him if everything was all right.

Ravenwolf responded, “Yes, I have just been thinking about what is happening. Louve, this is all new to you so everything is strange, nothing more so than another. However, what is going on with you is so abnormal. You will become an Om Intelept tomorrow, and it is beyond understanding that it could happen this fast. The Way is doing this for a reason. I fear our predictions of when Unulr_u will strike again are way off; it will be much sooner than we think.”

“Wouldn't The Way tell us that?”

“No, by not helping us and prodding us, It is making us stronger. A good parent is constantly challenging the child and holds back on the help to make the child strong and independent. That is what The Way does to Its children; we are Its children.”

That night when Koracki sat down in his seat, Henri took the beer from Louve, brought it over himself and sat down.

“And what have I done to deserve the privilege of your company, Henri?” asked Koracki.

“Could I talk to you for a minute, Koracki?” said Henri.

“But of course.”

“We like you, Rand and I; but we know so little about you. We have noticed that you spend a lot of time during the day with Louve and anyone who knows Louve knows she is smitten with you. You remind us a lot of Blaidd; you look enough like him to be his son, in fact, a young version of him. Is it by chance you are his son?”

“No, but we come from the same village and I am familiar with him.”

“Do you know what happened to him? Louve says Blaidd jumped off the cliff when the hunters had him cornered and he has never returned. After that Lykos was never seen again either. There are many in the village that think Blaidd was a pricolici (werewolf) and he and Lykos were one and the same. Is that possible?”

Koracki responded, “I doubt it very much; as for Blaidd, I give no answer of where he may be. He had a reputation of being a strange one in our village. Have you asked Louve if he said anything before he jumped? I know he and she were very close.”

“Yes, but she just says he told her it was time for him to go and he wouldn't be coming back. Rand and I hold that against him because he hurt Louve deeply and that brings us back to you. What are your intentions concerning our niece and cousin?”

Koracki looked at Henri for few seconds and then said, “I love her and would someday like to make her my wife but I have not told her that. As for hurting her, I would rather die first!”

Henri smiled and said, “We have been watching you since you arrived and we like you, Rand and I. If she wishes to have you as her husband, we will give you both our blessings.”

He then stood up and went back to the bar.

The next day Louve and Ravenwolf went to another place in the valley. Ravenwolf said, “The Cosmic Stream flows through here; see if you can find it and then find the spot. If you succeed at this, then enter the Cosmic Stream on your own with no tether.”

Louve looked for the shimmering, quickly found it and then looked for the light purple spot, again success. She stepped into the Cosmic Stream, said Curs de Apa Cosmic and disappeared. After a while she reappeared with great joy. The rest of the day she practiced entering the Cosmic Steam and then coming back. For several weeks she would go through the valley looking for different entrance points and upon finding them, enter into the Cosmic Stream. Sometimes Ravenwolf would be present, other times she was by herself.

On the beginning of the third week Ravenwolf was with her as she entered. He was very proud of her and excited by her rate of development. She was already more advanced in knowledge and ability than many of the other Om Intelept. He wondered where was all of this was taking them?

Then twenty minutes later she stepped back onto Earth. She looked at Ravenwolf and said, “Unulr_u is looking for you and may be coming here!”

And the Cosmic Stream Flows On…
