Bigfoot

Let's accept for the moment that they're real.  If someone says that he or she has encountered a large hairy creature, why the heck would anyone lie about this? Bigfoot, Sasquatch, the Wildman, the North American Wood Ape, the Skunk Ape are but a few of the names given this creature around the world.

Is there any proof?

Well, there are plenty accounts of folks encountering the creature; there is a billion castings of footprints and a few videos of “bigfoot” at a distance.

What have I concluded from all I've read and seen about bigfoot: they range from 7 to 11 feet tall; they are covered in hair which ranges from black to brown to red to white; they have big feet; they are bipedal; they give warnings by throwing rocks near intruders; they construct shelters made of tree limbs; they use upside down trees forced into the ground as boundary warnings; they seldom attack people but will if really upset with intruders; they communicate with each other thru howls and tree knocking; they have horrible odors; they are extremely territorial; they don't have much of a neck; they are extremely strong; they seem to have the ability to disappear into thin air (I, naturally, am suspect of this assertion); and they don't want to associate with humans.

The beasts' primary range seems to be northwestern United States and western Canada.  However there are reports of bigfoot throughout the US.  In the Himalayan area, there is the abominable snowman or yeti.

Although reports of bigfoot go much further back in time, British explorer David Thompson is often credited with the first discovery of Sasquatch footprints, and Roger Patterson in 1967 in Bluff Creek,  California, filmed a bigfoot in the wild.

There are many other theories as to the origin of bigfoot: alien, descendant of Cain, and descendant gigantopithecus.  The latter seems the most likely.  Some folks hypothesize bigfoot is the descendants of gigantopithecus, a huge creature which existed millions of years ago and is closely related to the orangutan which is also a solitary creature.

The real question for us today is, “Will we ever know the truth about bigfoot?”  I doubt it.  It has evaded our curiosity so far and I suspect it will continue to do so into the future.
