Kryptonite

John W. Pinkerton

When a conservative uses logic and reason when speaking to a liberal, the liberal sounds the submarine alarm, and the captain shouts, “Dive, Dive!” then sticks his fingers in his ears and loudly repeats, “LaLaLaLaLaLa…,” and warns, “Danger, danger, Will Robinson, the deplorables are armed with reason and logic.”

Reason and logic are to liberals what kryptonite is to Superman: in its presence they are unable to utilize their energy supply from their emotions.  Without energy from their emotions, they will weaken and eventually die.

Their aversion to logic and reason explains their refusal to debate conservatives…well, it explains much more than just that.

I know that it's hard to believe, but there are folks who see thought, logic and reasoning to be avoided like…yeah, kryptonite.

I recall a student who was a good example of this:  I distributed an exercise page to the students which provided sentences in which the student would make a choice between “who” and “whom.”  I noticed that one lad seemed to have a lot of wrong answers.  I asked him if he was using the two-step process I had provided him.  “That's too much work,” he responded defensively.  The two step process required the participants to ask themselves, “Is this a subject or predicate nominative?”  If so, “who” is the answer.  If not, “whom” is the answer.   In other words, he had concluded that thinking was an unreasonable incursion on his well-being…you know, like kryptonite.

Although I had been instructed by higher ups not to crush students' self-esteem, I could not resist.  I undoubtedly crippled him for life.

Thought, reasoning, and logic have always been my companions.  I've always found them useful and have seldom found them to be misleading.  Well, occasionally.  See my essay about a baked potato.

When the word came down that Donald Trump was in cahoots with the Russians, I immediately discounted this as a ridiculous allegation.

Of course, since our four-year obsession with Russia-Russia-Russia, it's been demonstrated that this was a total fabrication, but still those who seem to prefer lies as long as it supports their “world view” are willing to embrace.

How did I immediately know the Russia allegation was false?  Well, this ain't brain surgery: I placed it in the context of my life experiences and asked does this make any sense for Donald Trump, a very wealthy businessman and apparent patriot, to solicit or accept aid from a foreign government to help him get elected to the Presidency?  Obviously not.  After all, he's not a Clinton.

The liberals seem to have no problem accusing Trump of being a racist.  If they had any interest in reasoning, they would have realized that there is no evidence to support this position…in fact there is plenty of evidence indicating he is in no way a racist.  Logic requires evidence if a valid conclusion is to be reached.  Trump ain't Democrat Strom Thurmond?

How about this one: “He's worse than Hitler,”…and you're saying that because…?  Obviously there is no logic or reasoning that created this statement.  I think it's purely the product of the emotion-driven Trump Syndrone.  It makes about as much sense as Putin saying he attacked Ukraine because they were a Nazi country.  Hmm…Zelinsky, Ukraine's president, is a Jew, Vladimir.  Apparently, Vlad has become an emotion-based Russian liberal.  Say it ain't so, Vlad.
