Never Give Up

One characteristic of Americans has been never giving up---never surrendering…at least it once was.

Some folks are losing this.  The President of the United States is one.  Well, other than wanting to be President, I don’t believe he ever had any ambitions for the nation…only for himself.  He’s quite satisfied by being President.  He seems to be indifferent to a country crumbling around him.

Never giving up requires character.  Joe has never had character.  If you examine his lifetime, you’ll find a man who was happy to plagiarize his way through college, associate with clearly racist legislators, gladly take bribes from foreign powers,  and a person who wakes up each morning saying, “Ain’t I something.”

For some people, giving up just comes naturally to them.  They almost immediately fall into the habit of depending on others for their well being---their parents or other relatives, generous non profits, or the government.

When I was growing up, there was a stigma associated with welfare of any kind---private or governmental.  No more.

What happened to character?  What happened to never giving up?

During World War II, a German commander attacking the American forces in Bastogne, sent the American commander a message urging him and his men to surrender.  The American commander’s response was, “Nuts.”

We’re losing that attitude in this country.

Okay, I admit that I get a little discouraged occasionally.  I have to slap myself around a little to bring me back to a more positive attitude…a more hopeful attitude.

Some of you folks also need to slap yourselves into better attitudes.
