Not So Fast, Old Friend

John W. Pinkerton

I recently read an essay by a friend whom I greatly respect that sets the stage for a reconciliation of liberals and conservatives in our country.  He makes the argument that forgiveness is a tradition of our country.   He points out that we have managed to forgive each other for past sins and believes that we can forgive each other for any more recent perceived sins.

Not so fast, old friend.

In the 2000 election, I along with a lot of other folks, voted for Donald Trump for President.  We've elected many Presidents before Trump, and I believed this was just another election…but suddenly I became the Devil incarnate because it was assumed that I had voted for Trump.  Before the election I was that good old guy who paints cute animals and writes harmless essays.  After the election…well, you know…the Devil and I were drinking buddies.

Not only do I not believe it's possible to make peace with our current crop of liberals, I don't even welcome this as a possibility.  They are too dumb and too ignorant and too mean spirited to be considered for pardons.  I believe that there is a special niche in Hell for these folks.

These folks believe their best weapon is the lie, and they use it at every opportunity, and  they relish in causing harm to the lives of anyone who disagrees with them by applying a modern form of shunning.

In summary, don't expect forgiveness from me.  I've always been willing to get along with everyone.  However, if I establish that the individual or group has no interest in getting along, then….

I'm  a little disadvantaged in my opposition to these “liberal” folks: I do not lie; I have traditional values; and I'm psychologically balanced.

I wish that a reconciliation was a possibility, but it is not…and I'm okay with that.    Arrogance I will not forgive.
